Job Opening: PostDoc position at HIT Lab NZ
The Human Interface Technology Lab New Zealand (HIT Lab NZ) at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand is seeking a post-doctoral researcher from 2008-2009. This funding is for a one year position conducting research on the HIT Lab NZ's Accessible Augmented Reality (AR) project. There is a possibility that this position will be extended for a second year.
This postdoc is concerned with the development and implementation of new model-based tracking techniques for Augmented Reality Applications, and supporting research in natural feature tracking. The postdoc will propose new algorithms, model, theories or approaches that can be use for real-time AR desktop applications (advertising, edutainment, gaming, etc). Methods will be implemented, tested and integrated into the HIT Lab NZ AR Rendering Framework (OSGART).
The post doctoral researcher should have completed (or be near to completion) a PhD degree in the fields of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent and have experience the following areas:
- Computer Vision, including knowledge of monocular marker based tracking, stereo tracking, edge-based methods, template matching, tracking by detection, etc
- ability to program in C/C++
- Some knowledge of computer graphics, augmented reality
- Desktop PC development
- Mathematics of image processing algorithms
In addition it would be desirable for the candidate to have experience in one or move of the following:
- Technical Experience with OpenCV, or any other low level software library for computer vision
- 3D computer graphics (OpenGL)
- Augmented Reality
- Computer vision tracking for augmented reality
- Mobile phone programming (Symbian or Windows Mobile)
The post-doctoral researcher will work with the largest AR research team in the Southern Hemisphere, and will collaborate with the 40 staff and students of the HIT Lab NZ. In addition, they will have the opportunity to work with leading international visiting researchers, present their work at national and international conferences. The University of Canterbury has New Zealand's top ranked Engineering School and is the second oldest University in New Zealand.
