From HIT Lab NZ
CALMARS is a project that explores how Augmented Reality (AR) technology can be used to engage with users in new media applications, and with context-aware mobile interfaces. The project aims to conduct basic research in three areas of enabling AR technology; AR authoring, multimodal input and natural feature tracking. These techniques will then be applied to two application domains, mobile AR and AR for Art and Entertainment applications.
Project Goals
The HITLabNZ research focus for this project is in the following main topics:
- Next Generation AR Authoring
- Multimodal Interaction Framework
- AR entertainment / edutainment
- Commercialisation of new AR technology

Partner Projects
The CALMARS project is the link between two other projects in the area of affective computing and Augmented Reality. It links the CALLAS project and two partner in Ubiquitous VR together.
CALLAS
Main project partner for CALMARS is CALLAS(Conveying Affectiveness in Leading-Edge Living Adaptive Systems). CALLAS is a Framework 6 project of the EU. The mission statement of CALLAS: The CALLAS Integrated Project aims to design and to develop a multimodal architecture including emotional aspects, to support applications in the new media business scenario, with an “ambient intelligence” paradigm
Project Consortium
The consortium of CALLAS consists of leading research institutions in the field of affective computing all over Europe. The list of partners
GIST and University of Osaka
GIST and The University of Osaka jointly pursuing research in the area of ubiquitous VR and context aware mobile applications.
