Gerald Binder is on a three-month internship at the Lab until mid-December. He is undertaking a project in the Lab he hopes will form the basis of his thesis. Gerald’s project, SmartSpace, focuses on developing an application to use a PocketPC as interactive tool in a wireless collaborative augmented reality environment.
Gerald is studying media technology and media design at the Polytechnic University of Hagenberg. His course incorporates a mixture of both the creative and technical sides of multimedia.
Gerald is very interested in human-computer interaction and the how the potential collaborations between people and computers can work. In his fourth semester of study Gerald worked on a project in this field that involved the development of VoiceXML-based database access software.
After completing his internship at the Lab, Gerald will also return Austria to finish his diploma thesis.
In his spare time Gerald likes mountain biking, running, climbing and snowboarding. Since he has been in Christchurch he has spent most of his weekends travelling around, pursuing another hobby of his, photography.
