MARS Scanner on the news at the CERNFrom HIT Lab NZA cutting edge CT Scanner developed at the University of Canterbury is in the news on the CERN website. Based around a new generation of detector chip developed by CERN (and actually used in the Large Hadron Collider), the FRST funded project lead by the Physics Department at the University of Canterbury has been looking at applying this technology to medical purposes. The HIT Lab NZ is also a partner in this project, focusing on the visualization and human computer interaction aspects of the scanner. Part of our work consists of exploring and developing new visualization techniques and innovative interfaces to efficiently analyze the tremendous datasets generated by this scanner, leading to better informed decision making.
