During his three-month internship at the Lab, Mario will work on the WhereCam project. This project entails creating a wearable device that can be utilized as a context-aware multimedia capture and communication tool. Mario is keen to explore the interface between the virtual and the real world and the fusion of these two worlds. Prior to coming to New Zealand Mario was working on a project called ’MotionMusic’, whereby a webcam tracking system was used to monitor a dancer’s moves and music was then created in accordance with these movements. Reversing the usual concept of music creating dance, to dance creating music. When Mario returns to Austria in January he will complete his diploma thesis. On completion of his thesis he would like to work in an organisation like the HIT Lab NZ where he can work on interesting projects as well as have the possibility to undertake a PhD. Mario participates in a lot of sports and enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding and surfing. He describes ’music’ as being a key component in his life. Mario likes all types of music in particular drum and bass and ragga music. |
