The lab organizes a large number of events during the year to let poeple have a taste of the technologies and concepts developed at the lab. Most of them are open to the general public and include and visitors range from families, individuals, and school groups.

Open House

Quarterly the lab is running an "Open House" day to demonstrate our latest developments and research progress. Students and staff of the lab are involved and present their latest research demos, and visitors are able to experiment and try some of the demos by themselves . Check the Home page or the News and Events regularly to get the dates for the next open house.

Kids Fest and 3D modeling workshops

The HIT Lab NZ has carried out several 3D modeling workshops for children and young teenagers. For the last two years we organized 3D modeling workshops as part of the TV2 Kids Fest. Kids learned how to create their own 3D virtual model in 2 day workshop at the HITLab NZ. The topic was to take New Zealand to space. The children created tehir own MagicBooks with their 3D spaceships. In the end they could take their models on a journey through a virtual reality environment in our immersive 3D visualization theatre (Vison Space) and present their creations to their parents.

School Visit

The lab also offers schools the possibility to organize a visit to the lab. We do a short talk / presentations about what we are doing here followed by a tour of the lab and several demos of different interfaces and technologies. If you are interested please, contact with the subject: SCHOOL VISIT. Please include a short description of your school, how many students and which level.

Time and resources permitting, we also can give talks at schools and show some small demos. In May (2008) for example, we discussed our research with students at Lincoln High School as a part of a future problem solving class.
