Undergraduate Scholarships/ Internship Scholarships3D Visualization - A Transfer Function tool
Available: Now Scholarship: $3,000. (3 months part time). This project involves the development of a transfer function editor to be integrated in our medical visualization software realized in the context of the MARS-CT Project ([wiki.canterbury.ac.nz/display/MARSCT MARS-CT homepage]). Our ground-breaking multi-energy bin direct volume rendering software already has a basic transfer function module but large improvements can be made in this area (see programming a transfer function to learn more about transfer function). The goal of this project is to develop a basic GUI for editing the transfer function in our program (using openGL for the GUI rendering) as implementing the layer that can automatically create the input values for the transfer function (1D or 2D histogram involving gradient computation). The student will demonstrate the validity of the tool by combining the tool with 'true color', to create highly realistic images of biomedical data. Examples of transfer function editor can be seen here:
